Great Britain’s men’s side are set to face Germany in the 7^th-8^th place play-off, while the women’s team will play Belgium on in the 9^th-10^th place decider in Saturday’s final matches at the European Padel Championships.

The GB men were defeated in a nail-biting clash with Netherlands 2-0 in two three-set matches.

Christian Medina Murphy and Sam Jones took the opening set in their first match against Bram Meijer and Sten Richters, but it was the Dutch pair who came out on top 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Brits had two break points to drew level at 4-3 down in the third set, but the Dutch team held on to go two games clear before breaking for a second time and clinching victory.

That was followed by an absolute battle between Louie Harris and Chris Salisbury up against Menno Nolten and Bart Van Opstal – with the Dutchman taking the tie with a 7-6(2), 6-7(4), 6-1.

Nikhil Mohindra and Sandy Farquharson were given a walkover in the final match.

Women's:Clean sweep against the Swiss

Meanwhile, the women's team beat Switzerland 3-0 earlier in the day. 

The team opted for new look partnerships on day five, with joint British No.1 Aimee Gibson combining with Victoria Nicholas in the first match to beat Larissa Meyer and Noemie Voeffray-Remacle 6-3, 6-4.

Tia Norton and Abigail Tordoff then clinched a tight match against Anouk Faure and Karin Hechenberger 7-5, 6-4 to seal Great Britain’s place in the 9^th-10^th positional match tomorrow.

Both Gibson and Norton have won all but one match across the five ties this week.

The final match allowed for Sophia Haine to make her first appearance at this year’s event alongside Lisa Phillips.

Haine and Phillips, who have played together multiple times in both Cupra FIP Tour and LTA Grade One events completed a hat-trick of victories for the Brits – defeating Gaelle Rey and Lucie Rey 6-3, 6-3.

Later, the GB men’s side play Netherlands as they look to try and make the 5^th–6^th place match tomorrow.  

Great Britain’s men’s padel team are set for a 5^th-8^th place finish at this year’s European Championships after losing 3-0 in what was a strong fight against Portugal.

Meanwhile, the GB women’s side bagged their second win in as many days to boost their chances of a top 10 finish – defeating Poland 2-1 to set up a clash with Switzerland in the next round and into the 9^th-12^th place draw.

With new partnerships for their quarter-final tie with Portugal, Christian Medina Murphy and Louie Harris lost a close match with Miguel Deus and Nuno Deus 6-2, 67(8), 6-4 in two hours and 18 minutes.

The Brits saved four match points in the second set tie-break but a break early in the deciding set proved the difference between the two teams.

Sandy Fraquharson and Nikhil Mohindra started strong against Vasco Pascoal and Pedro Perry but after losing the first set, the Portuguese team didn’t face a break point the rest of the way – running out 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

With the tie already decided, Francis Langan and Alfonso Patacho lost 6-1, 6-2 to Diogo Jesus and Antonio Luque.

Women’s: Brits seal deciding rubber

GB sealed the victory with two dominant wins in their first and third matches against the Polish side.

Tia Norton and Aimee Gibson got the Brits off to a flying start on day four. Having been broken in their opening game, the British No.1s went on to win 12 straight games – beating Zuzanna Jeschke and Joanna Nowakowska 6-1, 6-0 in 42 minutes.

However, the Polish side put up a strong fight in the second match. Zofia Piorkowska and Aleksandra Rosolska broke Catherine Rose and Victoria Nicholas three times as they levelled up the tie with a narrow 6-4, 6-4 win.

British duo Lisa Phillips and Abigail Tordoff managed to get the team over the line in the deciding third rubber – blasting past Patrycja Kozluk and Izabel Kunat 6-1, 6-0.

The group stages came to an end on Wednesday evening with the Great Britain men’s team finishing 2^nd in Group B, while the women’s side came third in Group D.

The final positions were decided as the men lost 3-0 to Italy in their group decider and the women’s team got their first win of the tournament, beating Estonia 3-0.

The GB men are guaranteed a top eight finish now and move into the position 1^st-8^th place draw, but the women will have to battle it out for 9^th-16^th place.

It was a resounding victory for the British women to kick-start day three as who they claimed all three rubbers in straight sets vs Estonia.

British No.1s Tia Norton and Aimee Gibson wasted no time in getting the Brits off to an early lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Elisabeth Alla and Victoria Mandma in just 40 minutes.

In her first match at this year’s tournament, Olivia Smith teamed up with Lisa Phillips to seal a much-deserved team win against Emily Hang and Liis Org – beating the Estonian pair 6-3, 6-4.

That was followed by Catherine Rose and Victoria Nicholas bouncing back from their loss in yesterday’s deciding rubber against Netherlands to defeat Nora Leinus and Gendra Raag 6-4, 6-1.

Men's: GB lose to impressive Italian team

On the men’s side however, it was a tough battle against the group’s highest ranked team, Italy.

Christian Medina Murphy and Sam Jones went toe-to-toe with world No.60 Facundo Dominguez and his partner Simone Cremona but lost 6-3, 6-4.

Chris Salisbury and Alfonso Patacho were then defeated in the second match 6-2, 6-1 against Giulio Graziotti and Riccardo Sinicropi, before Nikhil Mohindra and Sandy Farquharson lost to Michele Bruno and Aris Patiniotis 6-4, 6-2.

Great Britain men’s team secured their place in the top eight at this year’s European Padel Championships with victory over Hungary, while the women’s side lost to Netherlands in the deciding rubber.

The men’s team – led by captain’s John Leech and Jordi Munoz – made it two wins out of two after beating Hungary 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Cagliari.

The result will guarantee that GB will qualify for the World Padel Championships in October.

They will face Italy next with the chance to finish top of Group B. Italy have won all six of their matches so far at the tournament.

British No.1 Christian Medina Murphy and Sam Jones are still yet to drop a set at this year’s event – extending their 100% record with a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 win over Zsombar Schmidt-Bohn and Marcell Urvolgyi.

The tie was wrapped up in under two hours as Louie Harris and Chris Salisbury continued their promising partnership in defeating Oliver Szakacs and Gergo Weidinger 6-1, 7-5.

Francis Langan made his first appearance at the European Championships alongside Nikhil Mohindra in the final rubber but the Brits were eventually beaten by Andre Biro and Csongor Toth 6-4, 6-2.

GB women’s: Narrow defeat to Netherlands

However, GB women team were defeated in their second match against the Netherlands 2-1.

The will finish now finish outside the top eight at this year’s event and therefore won’t qualify for the World Championships in October.

GB will face Estonia tomorrow in the final group match before moving on to the positional rounds.

Britain’s top pairing – Tia Norton and Aimee Gibson – got the side off to the perfect start, with a win in their opening match against top 200 ranked team Avalon Segou Jonker and Janine Hemmes.

Norton and Gibson saw two chances to serve out the match come and go, but the Brits kept their cool in the second set tie-break to see out a 6-2, 7-6(3) victory.

Netherlands got ack on level terms as Marcella Koek and Stephanie Weterings sealed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Abigail Tordoff and Lisa Phillips to force a deciding rubber.

In the final match it was the Dutch duo of Rosalie Van Der Hoek and Maaike Betz who clinched the tie with a close 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Catherine Rose and Victoria Nicholas.

Rose and Nicholas came back from a break down early in the third set to level at 2-2, but the Dutch team proved too strong. They broke back straight away and remained solid on serve to see out four of the last five games – completing their victory in two hours and 19 minutes.

The men's team will play Hungary this afternoon as they look to make it two wins from two.

It was an exciting opening day at the European Padel Championships in Cagliari with the Great Britain men’s team starting out with a 3-0 win against Switzerland in Group D, while the women’s team were defeated by Sweden.

The victory keeps GB’s men’s hopes of finishing top of the group or guaranteeing a top eight finish alive – with a place in the final four still up for grabs if results go their way against Italy and Hungary.

Teams who finish in the top eight at the European Championships will qualify for the World Championships later this year.

Louie Harris and Chris Salisbury gave the Brits an early advantage after they defeated Dylan Sessagesimi and Valentin Wenger 6-4, 7-6(9) in the opening rubber.

Then it was over to top-ranked British team Christian Medina Murphy and Sam Jones who confirmed the win for GB in stunning fashion – taking down Till Gygax and Patrick Naef 6-3, 6-1.

Sandy Farquharson and Nikhil Mohindra went to wrap up the tie and complete the Brits' clean sweep against Daniel de Castro and Kilian Jordan 7-5, 7-6(5).

However, the GB women’s team lost opening match to strong Swedish team 3-0, with two out of three of the matches going all the way to three sets.

Joint British No.1s Tia Norton and Aimee Gibson were denied an inspired comeback against Hanna Borjeson and world No.106 Amanda Girdo 6-4, 6-7, 6-4, before Lisa Phillips and Abigail Tordoff lost to Carolina Navarro Bjork and Baharak Soleymani 6-3, 7-5.

In their final match, Catherine Rose and Victoria Nicholas also edged a second set tie-break but would eventually bow out to Linnea Bjork and Ajla Behram 6-3, 6-7, 6-0.

Tomorrow, the women’s team will open on Centre Court against Netherlands at 8:00 UK time, while the men’s side face Hungary at 15:00.
